When I found out about my pregnancy with my daughter, I went into a whirlwind of information seeking. I did my research on diapers, and never cared for the idea of filling up the landfills with disposables. Cloth diapering sounded like a viable option, I was going to be doing laundry all day anyways, why not wash the diapers too? After the birth of my daughter I was listening to the book on tape of Mayim Bialik's "Beyond the Sling" and first heard about this crazy idea of infant pottying called Elimination Communication. Something inside of me just clicked. I remember seeing my daughter the day after birth make a face right before she filled her diaper at the hospital and had I known about EC at the time, I would have begun our journey right from the start! Once I found Andrea Olson's Go Diaper Free website, we began as part-timers at 4 months, and catching a few pees and almost every poop saved me from washing 10 to 20 diapers a week! EC and using the methods in the Tiny Potty Training Book, had my daughter potty trained at 25 months. Now with my second child just around the corner, I've begun the plan to EC from birth and, hopefully, never look back! Cheers to going diaper free! For those of you interested in some low cost ideas to keep those baby legs warm while doing Elimination Communication, here are a few great tutorials on DIY items!
